Koch’s work gives the viewer a sense of play and process in art. His pieces, explorations from his larger practice, provide a sense of the theories that underlie compositional choices and visual arrangement in the world. Color swatches become animated through various combinations, as in Color Diagram (Bare Bones). Koch’s abstractions are visualizations of formal theories found throughout the history of art, reminding us of how profound ideas emerge form simple forms, careful work and play.
Dennis Koch was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa and received degrees in both political science and studio art from the University of Iowa. Dennis spent several years working in the farm industry, and met his wife on the land as well – bicycling across Iowa. He moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to focus on his career as an artist, and had his first show that same year at High Energy Constructs. In 2008, he embarked upon another major life stage as father-to-be.
