Francisco Guerrero’s work revels in the lush, material possibilities of paint and its surfaces. Building up layer after layer of color, he transforms the images of popular culture into more complex visual representations. For New Editions, Francisco renders select cards from the traditional Mexican game Loteria, a subject that pairs a rich cultural tradition and its representations with the equally as timeless sense of gaming, play and chance.
Francisco Guerrero was born in San Diego, CA and received his MFA from the University of California at San Diego. He lives and works in Seattle, WA. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in New York, Mexico, Los Angeles and elsewhere. He has held teaching positions at Cornell University and currently teaches at the University of Seattle. He is a fabulous dancing partner, and an excellent travel companion to his young son Oscar.
