Roger Sandes’ work uses images from nature presented in bold form to create dynamic visual compositions. His images integrate aspects of modern art and folk culture, where simple forms relate to more complex experiences of life and mind. Roger chooses subjects that have been common in the arts of all cultures, reflecting the shared human sense of the world across history and geography.
Roger Sandes was born in Milwaukee, WI and lives and works in Williamsville, Vermont. Roger studied comparative literature and acting, yet returned to the practice of painting for his life’s creative focus. Years abroad and extensive travels have strongly influenced his work, which has been widely exhibited at 123 Fulton Gallery, New York, the Rochester Art Center, Rochester, MN, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, Brattleboro, VT, The Rock-Wall Gallery, Washington D.C., Neville-Sargent Gallery, Chicago, the Centro des Artes Creativo, Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico and The Pilgrim Studio, London, England, among many others. A few years ago he used his talents “in house,” when he designed several beautiful tiles for his son and daughter in law’s Morocco-based tile company, Popham Designs.
