Limited Edition Art By Contemporary Artists: Created For Children, Enjoyed By All
For Immediate Release Los Angeles, CA (October 2008)
New Editions launches a line of limited edition prints by contemporary artists for children and their parents.
Focused on the idea of “Art from the Start,” New Editions prints are visually suited to younger viewers, but maintain the sophistication of contemporary art. They can accompany a child’s creative and cultural development over decades. New Editions will launch with twenty-five prints by five artists – Farrah Karapetian, Rebecca Katz, Karen Kimmel, Michael Salter and Brian Wills – available exclusively on NewEditionsArt.com. New Editions are priced by size: 11x14” for $275 or 16x20” for $425. Each print is available in one size only and is an edition of 100. New Editions will regularly introduce new artists, works and projects as part of an interest in keeping art vital for children and their families.
New Editions believes in a lifetime engagement with art as an integral aspect of community. We give a percentage of our proceeds to support philanthropic organizations that share this philosophy, and to organizations that support the wellbeing of children in the world. New Editions’ first philanthropic partnership is with Baby2Baby, a Los Angeles based organization that distributes new and gently used baby items to families in need.
On November 7th and 8th New Editions will participate in Paper Magazine’s 24-hour department store – now in it’s fourth year – at a storefront on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California (8873 West Sunset Blvd. near San Vicente Blvd.).
New Editions was founded by Patrick Lakey and Lauren Miller, with the help of Jane Lakey, from their perspective perches in the world of art – artist, gallery director and art historian. They came together with an interest in thinking differently about where people might access art and what that experience might be. The birth of Patrick and Jane’s son, Everett, focused their attention on how he might experience and understand the art to which his parents had devoted their professional lives, and New Editions was born.
Philosophy
At New Editions, we believe that art serves as our playmate and our teacher. Art is joyous and challenging, reminding us of the wonders and complexities of the world – just like our children. And we believe the two should hang out together from an early age, so that the seeds of creativity and inquiry can flourish in us all.
